Ruth Katz Consulting Social Worker

My Social Work Honours course at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), included practical placements in the second year at the St Joseph's Children's Home in Sophiatown; in third year at a Home for unmarried mothers in Observatory, East of Johannesburg; and at the Government Department of Health and Welfare, served as a good grounding -- but the best learning for me was actually in the field.

I learned that much of a social worker's role is to listen effectively to the issues clients bring to therapy

I don't take notes during sessions only key points to be able to focus more closely on what the client has to say!
